The writer continues: "The tearful defeatism whicn runs through German public life these days has a perniciously laming effect, and, more so, because with some people the underlying view may be perceived or is expressly stated by them that if one would end the war it would, after all, be an easy thing to do, as one need only to join Grey and Wilson in the league of nations." SOLDIERS WARNED SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. admitting to citizenship A. H. Redeker, an army private of German birth, whose wife and children are now in Germany, United States District Judge Neterer sounded a warning to American soldiers carrying citizenship papers. "By all said Judge Nederer, "don't carry these papers on your person.

Leave them with your commanding officer or place them where they will be sate from enemy observation. If they are found on your person, in case of capture, there is no telling what cruelties the Germans will inflict on you. The Germans will figure that you belong to the German army and that your American citizenship status convicts you of desertion. They will show you no mercy." Redeker is 33 years of age. He has served in the American army in the Philippines and also in South A America.

Of German birth, before the war broke out he sent his wife and children to visit. The German government now refuses to let them return to America. Judge Nederer was in a quandary when his citizenship application was filed, but was convinced when Redeker said: I am refused citizenship papers I am a man without a country. Germany won't take me back and Uncle Sam will interne me, even though I have fought for him for years." This plea won Judge Nederer. Most Germans in the American army are being interned for the duration of the war.
