Why can't I give the Dye Trader Strange Plants? ›

Option to exchange Strange Plants for dyes now requires Hardmode. Defeating pre-Hardmode bosses is no longer part of the spawn requirements, now instead always requires at least four other town NPCs.

An easy way to find Strange Plants is to go across the surface with the Spelunker Potion effect, as Strange Plants will be highlighted. Strange Plants can spawn on Floating Islands. Since those may be rarely visited, touring them can often yield several.

Strange Plants are very rare herbs that can be found in different places in the world in hard mode and can be traded to the Dye Trader for different, animated dyes. There are four variants; purple, cyan-flowered, rose-red with bulbs, and bright orange.

Strange Plants have a 20% chance of spawning at each potential location at the start of a prospect, whether that be an Open World or a Mission. To view the potential spawn locations for Strange Plants, head over to Icarus Intel, select Prometheus from the dropdown menu under the filter tab, and show Exotics Deposits.

Martian Dye is a Hardmode, post-Golem dye that is sometimes acquired from the Dye Trader after completing a Strange Plant quest. It is only obtainable after completing a Martian Madness event. When equipped, it gives the player an aquamarine tone.
