We all know veggies are even better when you can enjoy them with dip. And this one doesn’t disappoint with its vibrant flavor and cream consistency with just a bit of crunch. I’m thrilled that my friend from the food blog It’s Yummi shared it with me and my readers, because even though I know she loves it, it has also become a favorite in our home too. I think you’ll be making it regularly, as well. Here’s why…

    • So quick. Just stir everything together and you are ready to start dipping. Though you can certainly let it sit overnight for the flavors to fully blend and develop.
    • Customizable. You can choose light or regular cream cheese and yogurt, depending on your needs and preferences.
    • Kid favorite. Just like Ranch Dip, this is another one that gets the kids eating their veggies, so it’s perfect to pack in a lunchbox.
    • Great party food. Set it out with all of your picnic or party apps and snacks, and it’ll disappear in no time. It’s a wonderful balance to heavier things like wings and nachos.

Cucumber Dill Dip Ingredients and Substitutions

Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll need to make this recipe, as well as some swaps you can make. Be sure to scroll to the recipe card for the full quantities and detailed instructions.

    • Plain Greek yogurt. I like to keep it lighter with lowfat yogurt, but you can also use nonfat or whole milk, depending on your preference.
    • Cream cheese. Softened to room temperature. Regular or light is fine, but I do not recommend fat free.
    • Cucumber. Preferably a seedless English cucumber or mini cucumbers, chopped. If you use a regular cucumber, you should halve it lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. You can also make this dip more like tzatziki if you shred the cucumber.
    • Onion powder.
    • Dill. Fresh gives it the best flavor, but in a pinch, you can use dried dill.
    • Lemon juice. Again, another case where I recommend using fresh.
    • Minced garlic. Either fresh cloves or from a jar is fine.
    • Salt.

Tips for the Best Dill Dip

A few things to keep in mind when you make this creamy yogurt dip:

    • Peeling is optional. You don’t have to peel the cucumbers, but you can if you want to.
    • Soften the cream cheese. Having the cream cheese at room temperature is important for a nice, smooth dip.
    • Let it sit. While you can enjoy the dip right away, puttign it in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight will really allow the flavors to blend and develop.
    • Fresh is best. With so few ingredients, you really want all of the flavors to shine, which is why I recommend fresh lemon juice, garlic, and dill inplace of their bottled alternatives.

    Storing Yogurt Dip

Because it contains dairy and other fresh ingredients, it must be kept refrigerated in a sealed container. If your ingredients are fresh, it should stay good for 3 to 4 days, but always discard it if in begins to smell off. You may notice a little liquid separation. In that case, just give it a stir. Do not freeze it, as it will become watery.

What to Serve with Dill Dip

Most commonly, I’ll set it out with a platter of raw veggies and maybe even some crackers, chips, or even gluten free pita wedges. But it’s actually super versatile and has a ton more uses. Here are some ideas…

    • Pack it in a lunchbox. The kids will love dunking Chicken Salad Skewers or spooning onto Chef Salad Lettuce Wraps.
    • Use it as a sauce. You can dollop it on top of Grilled Greek Chicken or Beef Souvlaki to complement the Mediterranean flavors.
    • Spoon it onto a bowl. It’s a great addition to Buddha Bowls or any kind of rice bowl topped with roasted veggies and your favorite protein.
